The Cardinal Wolsey, The Green, Hampton Court Road has been closed since Aug 2011. At the time is was thought there may be plans for it to be integrated into the Hotel next door, but the pub is now displaying a sign "Pub to let on flexible terms - contact Linda Reece Shepherd Neame Ltd on 01795 542132".

The Castle in Isleworth. For the last two months this large traditional landmark pub owned by Young's PubCo has been displaying a 'To Let' sign. The pub has lost a lot of trade under a number of previous managers and tenants and is now considered at risk of closure unless a new effective tenant can take on the pub and turn it around. Only one cask ale is currently on sale at 325p/pt that being Young's bitter. No food currently available.

The Liongate Hotel, Restaurant & Bar at 1 Lion Gate, Hampton Court Road, is closed and boarded up.

The conversion of the old Jenny Lind pub in Hampton Hill High Street to a KFC take-away is complete and now open and trading. This ex Enterprise Inns pub had been closed since 2009.

Twickenham Fine Ales have completed their first brew at their new brewery. 25BBL or 7,200 pints of Naked Ladies were successfully produced.

The Planning Committee hearing on the revised plans (12/2327/FUL) for the demolition of the Queen Dowager in Teddington and rebuilding of four residences (4x3 bedroom town houses) took place on the 29th Nov.

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Planning Committee have granted permission for the application on 7th Dec 2012.

The Licence of the recently refurbished and reopened Royal Oak Pub on Teddington High Street has been suspended until the 20th November following an incident on Saturday 10th November where a man died as a result of an assault after attending the pub. Police are currently investigating the incident - which also saw another man sustaining life threatening injuries.

Radio Jackie reported that two arrests were made at the scene of the second incident (Field Lane) at 12:30am.

The Treasury has confirmed that it has no plans to review the beer-duty escalator just days after a debate in the House of Commons saw MPs vote unanimously for a reassessment.

The Crown at 174 Richmond Road Twickenham is still closed and the major building work and refurbishment that had started has come to a halt pending planning approval. Richmond Council had refused an earlier planning application which was withdrawn by the applicant. A new application submitted 31st July 12/2462/FUL is currently in progress.

Previously known as The Ranch and before that the Hook, Line & Sinker this establishment has been closed for about 3 years. Now under new owners the renamed Ales & Tails Restaurant and Craft Beer Bar at 31 York Street, Twickenham has reopened after a major refurbishment. Their launch party took place on 1st Nov. They offer a good selection of cask, craft and bottled beers together with a wide choice of food. www.alesandtails.co.uk

The Victoria Tavern, 56 Worple Rd, Isleworth is holding a Mini beer festival from 2nd Nov. There will 10 beers all from the London area (Redemption, Sambrookes, London Feilds, Moncada, and By The Horns).

On the 27th Oct the Mayor of the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, Councillor Rita Palmer, presided over the dedication of a new repainted pub sign at The Rifleman in Twickenham. The Rifleman at 7 Fourth Cross Rd, Twickenham will be holding a grand Social Event on Saturday the 27th Oct from 1pm, to celebrate the change of signage to depict 'The Footballer of Loos', and to raise a glass in memory of Rifleman Frank Edwards - who lived locally. Members of the Irish Rifles Association will be there.

Frank Edwards was the 1st Battalion's football captain who dribbled a football across No Man's Land toward the German trenches. The new artist painted swinging sign outside was installed about 6 weeks ago.

The Marble Hill at 277 Richmond Rd, Twickenham has been renamed The Aleksander and the building painted white. The three hand pumps were serving Sharp's Doombar, Surrey Hills Ranmore Ale, and Twickenham Naked Ladies. The Ranmore Ale was £3/pt.

The Rose at 113 High St, Hounslow has been renamed/re-branded 'Bar 113'.

The Old Anchor 71 Richmond Rd, Twickenham has been de branded by Young's PubCo which suggests the pub has now been sold. The Sign outside now indicates 'Free House', however, the beer range was unchanged when visited yesterday.

The Teddington Arms, 38/40 High St, Teddington, has now closed for refurbishment and will reopen Friday 5th October.

The St Margarets Tavern, 107 St Margarets Rd is closed for refurbishment. Relaunch party Thursday 11th Oct from 5pm.

What was Sammy's at 172 High St. Teddington is to reopen on Saturday 22nd September as the Royal Oak Bar & Restaurant. The refurbishment has given the outside a new look by tiling the front pillars. A peep though the window confirms that real ale will be available. The original Royal Oak was demolished 2005 and the site completely rebuilt as residential homes, whilst retaining space for a licenced bar. It's been noted that a new planning application has been submitted in June 2012 by Vince Barber (12/1404/FUL ). Proposal: Extension and roof alterations to accommodate three new residential units. There are several objections to this scheme.

Update: Peter Cova, owner of The Crown pub in Twickenham, has acquired the pub on a new 20 year lease.

The Red Cow in Richmond will be holding a rolling beer festival which they are doing via Young's. Dates are between 31st Sept and 31st Oct. 5 different ales a week including Adnams, Dark star Brewing, Otter, Bath Ales, Oxfordshire Ales, Windsor & Eaton, Hogbsback, All the new Purity Beers and much more (and whatever Twicker's has to offer!). www.redcowpub.com

The Marble Hill pub is to be renamed the Aleksander after the new owner's (Roger and Magdalena Davy) two-year-old son, and not the 'The Birch' as previously reported. The pub is now free to source their beer from any supplier. An official opening party will be held on October 2nd. See news item from the Richmond & Twickenham Times.

The George in Twickenham has reopened under The Original Pub Company marque. They are displaying a Casque Mark sign on their literature and offering 10% off ales to CAMRA card carriers. There is a loyalty card scheme giving every 6th pint free. They are running a cider festival featuring 15 ciders from September 10th to 23rd with several deals and a similar loyalty card for cider. They are also (modestly) advertising "The best cask festival in town" from October 1st to 14th, again with several offers (no Locale brews though). Both festivals feature 3rds.

The Koyote Bar at 33-35 York Street, Twickenham, is being sold through AG&G for £600k. The spec. says 'currently closed and secured.

Work has started on Sammy's at 172 High Street Teddington that closed in April this year. After a re-decoration and name change back to the Royal Oak it's been rumoured that it may start selling Craft beers alongside real ale.

The Turk's Head at 28 Winchester Road, Twickenham has reopen after a recent refurbishment.

Ales&Tails (formally The Ranch) at 29/31 York Street, Twickenham, is currently being smartened-up and will open for three weeks in September (showcasing what they do). After which it will close for a redesign and refurb and reopen on a permanent basis on the 24th October. On Twitter: "business as usual tonight and we are open at 5pm".

The George at 32 King Street, Twickenham, closed on Monday 3rd Sept for a major refurbishment. A grand re-opening will take place on Saturday 8th Sept.

Hounslow Council has recently granted consent for conversion and mixed use classes of what was The Beaver that closed in 2009 located at 51 Salisbury Rd, Hounslow. TW4 7NW.

Planning application 00996/51/P3: Ground floor front extension and alterations to openings, change of use from public house (A4) to mixed public house (A4) and takeaway (A5) use, subdivision and change of use to create a shop unit with shop front (A1 use), first floor side extension and change of use of first floor from residential (C3A use) to House in Multiple Occupancy (C4 use) and formation of a vehicle access.

After being closed for 6 years, the Waldegrave Arms in Teddington has finally reopening as a FREE House on Friday 24th August. Food is expected to be available late September. Opening times: 11am-11pm and 11am-10.30pm Sundays. Up to three ever changing cask beer available. Free WiFi.

The Teddington Arms, 38/40 High St, Teddington, is to close for 10days refurbishment on 17th September 24th September. The work will add an additional hand-pump bringing the number of cask ales that can be available to five. The refurbishment was said to also help improve the general 'pub feel' of the establishment.

After a planning application (11/4041/FUL) calling for the demolition of the Queen Dowager at 49 North Lane, Teddington, and erection of 5 x 4 bed town houses was rejected by Richmond Council a new application (12/2327/FUL) has now been submitted. This proposal calls for the demolition of the pub and erection of four three-bedroom houses. Application decision due date 17th Sept 2012

The Waldegrave Arms in Teddington is expected to have a grand opening on the 24th August. In July a notice was posted on the window advertising for bar staff, supervisors, and waitresses. It's been reported the pub will have rotating real ales and good quality affordable food and a function room.

The pub closed in 2006 and the whole site has been redeveloped with the construction of two new 3 storey buildings integrated with a pub, The new developement comprises 22 flats with associated parking for 20 cars. For structural reasons it proved necessary to demolish the pub except the lower front wall which has been retained in the new building.

Sammy's Bar & Grill at High St Teddington that closed in April this year is reported to be reopening soon (mid Aug?) after a re-decoration and name change back to the The Royal Oak. It should be fully open in September.

The PubCo (Enterprise Inns) that owns the Bloated Mallard TW11 (ex Railway) in Teddington, have put in contract management to keep the pub trading. It reopened on the 3rd Aug. The only real ale being server was Fuller's London Pride and Everards Sunchaser.

The Young's sign was removed from the side wall of the Mitre at 20 St Mary's Grove, Richmond, on the 27th July, and it can now be confirmed that after 18 months of uncertainty about the short-term future of the pub it has finally been sold by Young's to a private landlord. The current tenant will remain until Feb 2013, as a minimum, and hopefully for much longer.

The Marble Hill (ex Rising Sun), 277 Richmond Rd, Twickenham. The freehold of the pub has now been sold by Young's to Roger Davy (and not Sainsbury's as previously thought) and the Young's branding removed. The new owner has managed several bars and restaurants etc before, including All Bar One in Richmond, several Browns etc. New ownership occurred this week and they plan to serve London Pride and two rotating guests (incl. Twickenham). After some refurbishment, they propose to rename the pub 'The Birch'.

On 11th July Languard Investments Ltd have closed and boarded-up the Charlie Butler at 40 Mortlake High Street. The developer have taken this action to help realise their plans to demolition the pub (built in 1968 by Young's) and to redevelop the site for a four-storey residential building. There has been strong local opposition to this and support to keep the pub open, with 2,000 signatures on a petition submitted to Richmond Council. See 11/3819/FUL

Planning Application No: 12/0801/Listed Building Consent submitted 15th March 2012 for a change to bar estilo, 1-3 Hill Rise, Richmond. The proposal is for the refurbishment of existing external walls and paintwork at ground level. Addition of new signage utilizing existing lighting. bar estilo to be called, Bill's - Cafe Restaurant Store. bills-website.co.uk As the new establishment will not have a bar, it will be removed from our Branch pub/bar list.

A second application 12/0789/ADV relates only to the installation of signage/adverts on an existing building for Joe Beau Lais.

The Bloated Mallard TW11 at 3 Victoria Rd, Teddington has closed (until further notice). A van was seen removing some furniture today. It is understood that the reason for its closure is Enterprise Inns increasing the rent making the pub unviable for the tenant. The tenant who came from the film industry, has decided to return to it.

The Richmond & Twickenham Times have reported that the owners of the Cabbage Patch at 67 London Rd, Twickenham, were ordered to remove an illuminated sign, following complaints from residents. Read more...

The Ranch that's been closed for some time (previously known as the Hook, Line & Sinker) on 29/31 York St, Twickenham, is to re-open as Ales & Tails. It will be a pop-up craft beer and cocktail house open from early July to late August. It's being set up by the people behind Citizen Smith Bar of Putney.

The Crown at 174 Richmond Road Twickenham, has closed for major building work and refurbishment. However, on 11th June Richmond Council has refused the Planning application 12/1154/FUL, which has now been withdrawn by the applicant. The following reasons were given for refusal: Large area of Victorian fabric being removed internally; projection of the extension to the kitchen; and loss of internal features.

The new owners of the Waldegrave Arms Pub (closed in 2008 for site redevelopment) at 209 Waldegrave Rd, Teddington, TW11 8LX, have made a licensing application to Richmond Council. It appears there was local objection to some aspects of this application, but welcomed the reopening of the pub.

Duke of York, 175 Martindale Road, Hounslow. A planning application (Ref: 00745/175/P7) was submitted to Hounslow Council on 21st Oct 2011 and approval granted 19th Jan 2012 to erect two three bedroom semi detached houses with associated vehicle access and landscaping. Pub still trading, no real ale.

It would appear that the reopening (after being closed for 7 weeks) in March of the Dukes Head in Hampton was rather short lived. It's now closed again and boarded up with a 'Freehold for sale' notice from AG&G installed.

The Marble Hill (ex Rising Sun), 277 Richmond Rd, Twickenham has reopened. The new management have been given an 18 month tenancy after which its understood Sainsbury's have secured a deal with Youngs Pub Co. The pub is expecting to be 'free of tie' in a month or so and will then offer a number of interesting ales from independent breweries. A further two hand-pumps may also be installed if the demand is there. Currently only Youngs Bitter, Special and St Austell Tribute. A comprehensive range of quality food available. Opening times: 11(12 Sun)-11. Still no change to beer range as of 6th July.

Mulberry at 65 Richmond Rd, Twickenham has been renamed The Clubhouse & Emporium. Bar looks intact and the hanging Mulberry sign is still in place but the establishment was closed when visited so no further information is known.

The Cross Lances (Fullers) at 236 Hanworth Rd, Hounslow, TW3 3TU, under the new tenants Adie Line & Mike Stevens now have their own website - crosslances.co.uk. Best Fuller's London Pride in Hounslow! is the call.

The Hogarth at 58 Broad St, Teddington will be closing from the 1st June for refurbishment. Reopens 7th June with new tenants.

Approval has been granted for the demolition of the New Moon at 50 Main St, Hanworth, and the erection of a new 3 storey residential development comprising of 9 x 2 bedroom apartments, together with associated landscaping and parking. Hounslow Council Planning ref: P/2010/1112 and 00724/50/P6. The pub was built in the mid-1960's.

Contrary to a previous posting the Mitre at 20 St Mary's Grove, Richmond has not closed. It is, however, to be sold to a private landlord by Young's PubCo, and will continue to trade as a pub free of tie. More info to follow as details become known.

The Hope at 115-117 Kew Road, Richmond is being refurbished/repainted and is expected to reopen 18th May. Now open, Beer: Doombar, Pride + guest.

The Shaftesbury Arms next door to the Hope that reopened about 6 weeks ago, has been completely transformed including the garden at the back. The pub is now light and airy and bears no resemblance to the original layout. The dark wood panelling that remains has been stripped and left unfinished. The former Crown & Sceptre pub in Feltham looks not to become a Doctor's Surgery as rumoured when it closed in 2009. Full planning permission has been approved by Hounslow Council on 17th April 2012 (01054/21/P4) for the erection of a single storey rear extension to the existing property. The application has been submitted by Tesco Stores Ltd and Woodbrook Associates Ltd.

Claire & Angus of the Red Lion (Fuller's) at 2 Castelnau, Barnes, London, SW13 9RU are holding a special beer and food pairing event with beers from England, Scotland and Wales competing against each other in a 'Battle of Britain' hosted by Melissa Cole*. Tickets are £40 per head (Includes a four course meal and beer to match). The event takes place on Friday 18th May at 7.30pm. Fuller's are representing England, Forth Valley's Harviestoun Brewery for Scotland and South Wales by the Otley Brewery.

A Planning Application (P/2011/2769) was approved in Nov 2011 for The Warren at 419 Hanworth Road, Hounslow, which has been vacant since around November 2010. The site may be taken on by Tesco.

Reading the application: "The freehold owner (DC Bars Ltd) wish to extend the backrooms of the public house in order to offer a flexible layout leading to an improvement in commercial viability thus encouraging an alternative commercial tenant within Use Classes A1, A3 or A4 and convert the underused first floor space to residential. It is anticipated that this new space at ground floor level will either increase the commercial viability of the public house through the capability of providing a greater range of leisure facilities such as food sales or function space or it will enable the provision of A1 retail floorspace. An 'open' planning permission will enable the market to decide what use should be implemented on the ground floor of the site."

Of the three Young's pubs that the PubCo wish to sell off we've heard that Sainsbury's Local are due to exchange contracts for The Old Anchor AND the Marble Hill.

The North Star in Hounslow that was reported to be under threat of closure is now under new management. (update: 18th May)

A planning application has been submitted by Ash Properties Ltd to Hounslow Council (ref.01100/201/P [re click after ticking check box] to demolish the Swan pub in Swan Road, Hanworth, and replace it with a new 3 & 4 storey housing development; a total of 18 residential dwelling. The pub is currently still trading (no real ale).

A new tenant has taken over the Swan Inn (Shepherd Neame) at 22 High St, Hampton Wick. Beers available are Shepherd Neame: Kent's Best, Spitfire & Bishop's Finger.

The Lass o’ Richmond Hill at 8 Queens Rd, Richmond Hill are holding a Jubilee Beer Festival From the 19th May for 3 weeks. They will be offering a wide range of interesting and unusual ales from microbreweries around the UK.

The Roebuck on Richmond Hill can now be said to have the most extensive range of real ales in Richmond. Since its refurbishment in Feb 2012 additional hand-pumps have been installed. The current beer range is Fullers London Pride + 8 guest beers. On a visit on the 12th these were: Downton JPA; Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted; White Horse Village Idiot; Surrey Hills Ranmore Ale; Vale Gravitas; Wells Bombardier; and

Update on the future of the Jenny Lind at 80 High St, Hampton Hill.

Planning application number:
11/1581/FUL was refused permission for change of use from A4 (public house) to A5 (take away), on 4th Aug 2011. An Appeal was allowed, however. The resubmitted application with additional justification to address reasons for refusal is 10/3735/FUL

It appears that Edgewest Lambeth - Estate Management Services, (the current owner) who is understood to be acting for KFC, have now won their appeal. The Jenny Lind is currently unoccupied and boarded-up, but will now be open to offers for any of the uses covered by A5.

Plans were agreed at the last London Liason Committee (LLC) for a second London Members' Regional Conference to go ahead at
Questors Theatre in Ealing on the 1st September. Attendance is free, and the beer in the theatre's (multiple CotY-winning) Grapevine bar is both excellent and inexpensive.

Sammy's | American Bar & Grill in Teddington has closed. In a message to those subscribed to their mailing list they state: "After 4 years trading in the vibrant heart of Teddington we, the owners and independent proprietors, have made the very difficult decision to close Sammy's... Accordingly, the lease for this prime site with excellent modern facilities is for sale and enquiries are welcomed to 07831 303 943 or by email to vinceroyaloak@aol.com"

Luke and Cloe the popular tenants of the Rifleman in Twickenham have decided not to renew their tenancy under new Enterprise Inns terms, and so the pub will close on the 17th April. However, Congratulations are in order as they will be getting married on the 21st April. The pub will reopen with new tenants on the 24th.

Twickenham Fine Ales have found a new site in Twickenham for a larger brewery just a short walk from their current Edwin Road brewery. The new brewery will be a 25-barrel plant made by Johnson Brewing Design. Installation should be completed by August and it is hoped to be in production later in the year. The new premises should also be roomy enough to have a brewery tour reception area and a retail area for trade on a Saturday morning.

Mark Wainwright has resigned as brewer at the Botanist. He is moving up north to become a partner in Blue Ball Brewery of Runcorn, where he trained. The Botanist is recruiting two replacement brewers.

Mark is still going to be working as a consultant for Brewhouse & Kitchen, a new pubco started by two directors of Convivial (the company which runs the Botanist, White Swan, Barley Mow, etc) which plans to use the Botanist as the model for a number of new gastro-brewpubs.

Demolition of New England pub, Brentford. An emailed letter from Hounslow Council advises that the applicant is appealing to the Planning Inspectorate against the refusal of the proposed development. 'Demolition of the existing building and the erection of a 20m high building comprising of 26 residential dwellings, a 170sqm Commercial space on ground floor and 15 car parking spaces with associated access and amenities'. One Paradise Road, 1 Paradise Rd. Richmond, currently closed may reopen as the 'Rincòn - bar espanõl' when planning application 12/0497/ADV is approved. The new owners also own Don Fernando's tapas restaurant near the Station.

Its been reported that that Albany Arms in 17 Albany Rd, Brenford has reopened.

It's been reported that The Hope (formerly Molly Malones's) in Kew Road, Richmond, has closed. From notices posted on the door, it seems to have gone bankrupt.

The Royal Oak, Ham Street, Ham – A planning application (12/0524/FUL) for change of use from Public House (A4) to a 4 bedroom family dwelling (C3) has been submitted to Richmond Council. This Enterprise Inns pub closed 8th Feb 2011.

Its been reported that tenants of the The Crown at 174 Richmond Rd, Twickenham are on the move and a small pubco is to take on the tenancy. They are looking to change the style of the pub to a pub/restaurant. Their initial plans are to convert the current function room to a dining area, without closing the rest of the pub while work takes place. Latest info suggests a 3-4 month closure with extensive changes. Previous owners retained to continue running the pub until planning application sorted. However, the current owners have already taken up the lease on The Rugby Tavern (ex Grand Union), Twickenham and will be leaving The Crown at the end of April.

The Duke of York at 672 Hanworth Rd. Whitton has been refurbished and opens on the 16th March as John Barras pub. See news item in local paper 'Duke of York pub to undergo £180k revamp'. Wells Bombardier served on two hand-pumps.

The Dukes Head at 122 High Street, Hampton, has closed, but will reopen ~22nd March under new management.

The Duke of Wellington at 279 Staines Rd, Hounslow, is now closed and boarded up. The pub was sold by Green King to Sainsbury's Supermarkets Ltd. See their Planning Application: 01054/279/P4. Full Planning Permission Approved by Hounslow Council on 7th Feb 2012

Noble Green Wines Off-licence at 153-155 High Street, Hampton Hill, have enlarged their cask ales section. They now have 16 cooled (at the optimum temperature) casks on stillage in the shop. The planning application (11/4041/FUL) from Crowton Properties Ltd. to demolition the Queen Dowager in Teddington and replace it with five 4 bed town houses has been refused by Richmond Council (20th Feb 2012). See letter (pdf).

Young's Pub Company is to sell 14 freehold pubs from its estate to free up cash for investment in its managed estate. Thirteen of the pubs are from Young's tenanted estate in London and the Home Counties, with the fourteenth a managed house in Bristol. They are all being marketed by Christie & Co.

David Turner, property and tenancy director of Young & Co's Brewery Plc, said: “Whilst we are under no pressure to dispose of these pubs, a sale of some or all of them would create additional scope for us to invest in our expanding managed estate, in line with our stated strategy.”

The Sussex Arms in collaboration with Twickenham Fine Ales have produced a new Occasional Beer called Black Eel. Tasting notes: A black beer showing an intense hoppiness and citrus flavours combined with an undercurrent of chocolate. ABV 5.5%. The beer is currently available from the Sussex Arms and the Prince of Wales, Twickenham.

Keith Porter reports that an article in this week’s Richmond and Twickenham Times says a decision on the Charlie Butler has been deferred. The council has asked the developers to justify the pub being lost. They have asked them to readdress the issue of the impact of losing the pub would have on the area. The developers think there are enough pubs in the area and the closure will not have an injurious effect on the community. No date has been indicated for a final decision.

Reported in this week's Richmond & Twickenham Times: The fate of the Jenny Lind pub in Hampton Hill to become a 'fast food takeaway' now looks a possibility again. The developers that own the site have managed to get the National Planning Inspectorate (NPPF) to over rule Richmond Council's decision to reject their planning application for a KFC.

Planning Application Number : 11/1581/FUL. Proposal: Change of use from A4 (public house) to A5 (take away).

Twickenham Fine Ales have reached agreement with Young's & Co. to supply five more of their pubs with their ales. This brings the total number of Young's pubs offering TFA guest beers to twelve.

Fullers have acquired the freehold (27th Sept last year) of the The Plough 42 Christ Church Rd. East Sheen, SW14 7AF.

The Charlie Butler at 40 Mortlake High Street, Mortlake, that was sold by Young's & Co. to Languard Investments Ltd, now wish to redevelop the site. A Planning application was submitted on the 24th Nov 2011. See 11/3819/FUL.

We now hear that Mr Crispin Mallet (tenant, pictured) has reported that the owners of the pub have now served notice that they will be boarding it up from 26th February.

The decision date for the planning application submitted to Richmond Council is 19th Jan.
